This guide shows you how to create a new settings template in DisplayNote Central Management's Launcher. Settings templates let you define a standard configuration (quick actions, shortcuts, wallpaper, security, and license details) once, then apply it to any room or device instead of configuring each one individually.
Prerequisites
- Admin access to Central Management (
manage.displaynote.com). - Have ready, if relevant: any application paths/icons you want as shortcuts, a wallpaper or company logo image, and the license contact details (name, work email, company) to apply.
Steps
1. Open Settings templates
In Central Management, go to Manage > [your org] > Launcher, then select the Settings templates tab (next to Devices, Widgets, and Groups).
2. Start a new template
Click Create template in the top-right corner of the Settings templates list.
3. Set the operating system and name
In the Create template dialog:
- Choose the Operative System (defaults to Windows — change this if the template is for Android).
- Enter a Name for the template (e.g. "Test template").
- Optionally add a Description.
Click Create. You'll see a confirmation toast ("Template [name] has been created") and land on the new template's General tab.
4. Configure General settings
- Room name — optionally set a fixed room name for devices using this template.
- Auto-update — toggle on if you want updates to install automatically, and set the Apply updates between time window.
5. Configure Display settings
Select the Display tab and set up Quick actions — each option has a checkbox (include this setting in the template) and a toggle (its on/off value):
- Manual cleanup — lets users clean up the device during the day.
- Link to desktop — lets users access the Windows desktop for troubleshooting.
- Device audio — lets users change the device's speaker/volume settings.
- Exit app — lets users exit the app when Kiosk Mode isn't enabled.
- Access settings — lets users reach Settings from the home screen.
Below Quick actions you can also enable:
- Personal sign-in — lets users connect a personal Microsoft account for meetings/content.
- Screensaver — choose Images (point to an image folder) or Web content (Professional plan) to show a link/dashboard when idle.
6. Add Shortcuts (optional)
Select the Shortcuts tab to add items to the home screen. Choose a shortcut type — Applications, Web link, Network drive, or Video source.
For an application shortcut, click Applications and fill in Add application:
- App kind (e.g. Windows normal app)
- Path to app (e.g.
C:\Program Files\Montage Receiver\Montage.exe) - Name (e.g. "Montage")
- Icon — pick one from the built-in list or upload your own (SVG or PNG, minimum 96×96)
- Background colour
- Command line arguments (optional)
7. Configure Appearance (optional)
Select the Appearance tab to brand the home screen:
- Company logo — check the box and click Browse... to upload one (SVG recommended).
- Wallpaper — choose "Use a gallery image" and pick one from the built-in thumbnails, or select "Use your own image" (JPG or PNG, 1920×1080 recommended).
8. Configure Security settings
Select the Security tab:
- Device cleanup — click Configure cleanup to set:
- Cleanup timing: after a period of inactivity, at a scheduled time, when meetings end, and/or when users disconnect.
- Scripts: optional pre-cleanup and post-cleanup script paths.
- System cleanup: default system folders or other specified files/folders to clear.
- Application cleanup: how open applications and their data are handled during cleanup.
- Admin PIN — set a PIN to restrict access to admin functions.
- Kiosk mode — restricts the device to the app interface only (disables some keyboard shortcuts to prevent access to the desktop/system settings).
- Calendar event privacy — restricts what calendar event details are shown.
9. Add License details (optional)
Select the License tab and enter the Name, Surname, Work email, and Company to associate with devices using this template.
10. Save the template
Click Save template at the bottom of the page. You'll see a confirmation toast ("Template config of [name] has been saved"). Alternatively, click View summary to review all configured settings before saving.
Verify It Worked
- You should see a success toast after saving.
- The template now appears in the Settings templates list on the Launcher.
- To apply it, assign the template to a room or device group from the Devices or Groups tab.
Common Issues
- Web content screensaver is greyed out / tagged PRO — this option requires a Professional (or higher) Central Management plan.
- Changes don't seem to save — watch for the confirmation toast after each edit; if it doesn't appear, refresh and re-check the field.
- Kiosk mode limits troubleshooting access — if you need desktop access for support, keep Link to desktop and/or Exit app enabled in Display settings before turning on Kiosk mode.
